The Journal of Folklore Research presents reviews of works relevant to the discipline of folkloristics, offering timely and concise reviews delivered free of charge directly through an email subscription list and stored online at the Journal of Folklore Research website.
We encourage reviews that give a summary of a work's content and purpose, an assessment of its argument, and a discussion of its place in current scholarship. The usual range for a review is 500–1000 words. We reserve the right to perform minor editing on your review.
Unless we hear from you otherwise, we will include your email address when the review goes out to our online subscribers.
As is customary, individuals may keep the books they review.
FORMAT
All reviews must be in either Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) or RTF format.
Include the author(s) or editor(s) and title(s) at the start of the review. JFRR will provide the remaining bibliographic information.
Please observe the following formatting guidelines:
Do not indent paragraphs. Separate each paragraph with a line space.
Do not use footnotes or endnotes generated by a word-processor. If you wish to include notes, signal their presence by manually typing the individual numbers within square brackets in your text where you would otherwise place your note number: [1], [2], [3], etc. The notes themselves should be manually typed at the end of your main text as endnotes, introduced by the same notation. However, we strongly encourage you to simply include a "Works Cited" section rather than footnotes, for the sake of easier formatting. Please use the following as an example of citation format:
